Style changes everything

April 8, 2010

I found this through a post on Topless Robot, a comic related website, and I was impressed by the design involved. Malcolm Sutherland has animated various sequences from Star Wars (for a project called Star Wars Uncut– where anyone can submit a remake of random scenes), but he has redesigned all the elements for his version. His personal style is very whimsical, and comes across as a blend of Moebius a.k.a. Jean Giraud…

and the psychedelic designs from the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine by Heinz Edelmann.

Blue Meanies are coming!

Malcolm Sutherland has animated several shots from the film, but the one below I found most interesting. His redesigned Luke has the impression of a japanese farmer or a scarecrow, which I found amusing.

I tried to embed the video but can’t seem to get it to work, so here’s the link and a quick shot from the animation.

I really liked this guy’s stuff. I could feel the Yellow Submarine in there for sure. Thanks for sharing!
